What does an AI-built website cost?

Torn Studio4 min read

Short answer

An AI-built website costs roughly what a hand-built one costs. DigitalApplied’s 2026 benchmarks show AI-assisted build times fell 22–34 percent in a year while pricing held flat — the freed hours went into design, performance and measurement. Production time was never where the money went.

Every conversation starts from the same assumption: if AI makes the work faster, the site should cost less. The market has answered, and the answer is documented. Build times have fallen sharply. Prices have held.

What the AI builders cost

The tools that build a site for you publish their prices openly: Framer from $10 a month, Webflow from $15, Wix from $17, Squarespace from $19, and Bolt, Durable and Playcode at $25. The band is $10–25 a month, checked in July 2026. That is a real product for a real customer — the one who writes their own copy, chooses their own structure and lives inside the template.

What a business build costs

Agency benchmarks price the same word an order of magnitude apart. DigitalApplied puts a small-business site at $3,000–8,000 with a freelancer and $8,000–15,000 with a boutique agency, and a corporate marketing site at $15,000–75,000 with a median of $36,500. Senior development runs $125–300 an hour in the US and $95–225 in the UK and EU.

$25 a month and $36,500 are two different products that happen to share the word website.

What happened when build times fell

DigitalApplied’s review of 2026 benchmarks measures the drop: AI-assisted build times down 22–34 percent year over year, with pricing unchanged. The freed hours went into design iteration, performance tuning and analytics. Swivrr reports the same thing from the Swedish market from the other direction — AI tooling has let experienced developers deliver faster, and prices have stayed where they were.

Two independent sources, two markets, one result. That is as close to an answer as the question of whether AI makes websites cheaper currently gets.

What remains when production shrinks

Production time compressed because it was the part a tool can take over. The rest of the project stayed where it was:

  • Deciding what the site should say, and to whom. No model knows what your company is best at.
  • Structure and navigation, which follow from how your customers buy.
  • Accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA, Core Web Vitals and older-browser support.
  • Every integration with an external system, because the system on the other end keeps changing.
  • The quality gates that run on every change and hold the site together over a year.

What speed costs

An average Swedish B2B project takes three to five months from requirements to launch. The market puts a published price on speed: Swivrr lists a 15–30 percent surcharge for compressing a three-month project into six weeks. Torn Studio delivers in three to six weeks at its ordinary price, and that is the comparison worth making.

Common questions

Where does the money go when AI makes production faster?
Into what production never covered: positioning, structure, accessibility, performance and the quality gates that hold a site together over time. DigitalApplied’s benchmarks show the freed hours went into design iteration, performance tuning and analytics.
Could we build the site ourselves with an AI builder for $20 a month?
For a simple presence, yes. The band is $10–25 a month across Framer, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Bolt, Durable and Playcode. You write the copy, choose the structure and live inside the template. It is a different product from a business build, at a different price.
How much faster is a build with AI tooling?
DigitalApplied’s review of 2026 benchmarks puts it at 22–34 percent shorter build times year over year. It is the production half that shrinks. Requirements, structure, accessibility and integrations take the same hours they always did.
Which parts of a web project do not compress?
Deciding what the site should say, the structure that follows from how customers buy, accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA, performance work, and every integration with an external system.
What does delivery in six weeks cost?
On the Swedish market, 15–30 percent extra according to Swivrr, on top of a build that already costs more. An average B2B project otherwise takes three to five months. Torn Studio delivers in three to six weeks at its ordinary price.
Are we paying for the tools or for the work?
For the work. The tools cost tens of dollars a month and the supplier carries that. What you pay for is the hours spent deciding what to build and making it hold once it is built.
